Before the Devil Knows You're Dead
This is a movie directed by the well known director Sidney Lumet (Dog Day Afternoon, Network, Eqquus. A story about a desperate need for money resulting in a planned robbery of a small jewelery store that goes horribly wrong. Philip Seymour Hoffman talks his brother, played by Ethan Hawke, into robbing a jewellery store which happens to be owned by their parents. The plan is that they knock off the store, sell the jewels, get their money, the insurance pays the parents, and everybody is ok. Its planned for a time when a very old lady assistant is supposed to be in the store. What actually happens - instead of Ethan Hawke carrying out the robbery, he hires a criminal type who carries a gun, instead of the old lady assistant theres the mother who is in the store instead, the gunman in the store uses the gun, the lady shoots him, he ends up dead and the mother is in hospital in a critical condition. A robbery gone horribly wrong. The mother dies in hospital, the brother gets blackmailed by the dead robber's broter-in-law, and the older brother decides to deal with the situation in his own way. He takes out a drug dealer, steals his money, and then shoots the blackmailer. The father, played by Albert Finney, has been tracking the killer down and finds out that his son is involved. He follows them as they first visit the drug dealer, and then blackmailer. He sees the younger son fleeing with the money and the older son being wheeled out on a stretcher after the shoot-out. He realizes that it was him that planned the robbery that resulted in his wife's death. He visits the son in the hospital and smothers him with a pillow. He walks out of the hospital and the movie ends.
